The Braeburn, like the Ginger Gold, was also a chance
seedling, this time, discovered in New Zealand. The Braeburn produces a
medium to large fruit of very high culinary quality. The apple is colored
with an orangish -red blush over a yellow/green background. Its sweet/tart
flavor, crisp and juicy flesh, has contributed to its winning the Northwest
Fruit Tasting for the last 4 years. The Braeburn Apple also displays high
current and future demand in the domestic market, as well as good export
potential. The acreage's planted to the Braeburn are small, therefore the
volume being produced is low: this is increasing the already high market
demand. The Braeburn is a good, long keeper, (shelf life-8 months in regular
storage)
